📋 Common Transaction Types

💸
Simple Transfer

Sending ETH/crypto from one address to another. Lowest gas cost (~21,000 gas on Ethereum).

🪙
Token Transfer

Moving ERC-20 tokens. Higher gas than ETH transfers (~50,000+ gas) because it calls smart contract.

🔄
Swap Transaction

Exchanging tokens on DEX like Uniswap. Complex interactions = high gas (100,000-500,000+ gas).

📜
Contract Deployment

Publishing new smart contract. Very expensive (500,000-5,000,000+ gas depending on code size).

🔍 Decoding Transaction Data

Input Data

Hex-encoded function calls for smart contracts. Empty for simple transfers, contains method signature + parameters for contract interactions.

0xa9059cbb000000000000000000000000...
Nonce

Transaction counter for the sender's address. Prevents replay attacks - each transaction must have sequential nonce.

Gas Limit vs Gas Used

Gas Limit = max you're willing to spend. Gas Used = actual amount consumed. Unused gas is refunded.

Gas Price / Priority Fee

How much you pay per gas unit. Higher = faster confirmation. EIP-1559 uses base fee + priority fee model.

💡 Reading Transaction Status

🟡
Pending: In mempool waiting to be mined. Could take seconds to hours depending on gas price.
🟢
Success (1+ confirmations): Included in a block. More confirmations = more secure.
🔴
Failed: Transaction was mined but execution failed (out of gas, revert, etc). Gas is still consumed.
Dropped: Stuck in mempool too long with low gas, eventually removed. No gas consumed.
